Questions and Answers about World English

Q: Who uses World English?
A: Government, businesses and charities use the World English System because they want people to read every word of their messages.

Q: Does World English mean dumbing down our information?
A: World English recognises that different audiences need different words. Our aim is to get your real meaning across, in words that are clear and motivating to your particular readers. This may mean changing words – but we wouldn’t say it’s dumbing down. There’s nothing ‘dumbing down’ about stripping out technical jargon that only a few people would understand. We need to talk to people as they are!

Q: How quick is it to 'translate' into World English?
A: Send us a document, and we can often translate it in as little as two days, and sometimes within a day. It does, of course, depend on the size of your document.

Q: How do I 'translate' information into World English?
A: Simply send us an email. We prefer the information in a Word document. We'll then ask you about who your readers are, and check what you want them to do.

Q: Do I have to accept every part of a translation?
A: No. We suggest changes - but it's up to you whether you want to accept all, some or
none of them.

Q: How do I contact the World English team?
A: Please call us on +44 (0)191 265 4411. Or email us.
